Alex Urquhart
Research and Modeling Manager
Alex is a Research and Modeling Manager at Energy Innovation. As part of the Modeling and Analysis Program, he designs and oversees policy research projects for internal and external partners, as well as analyzing and communicating the findings from those projects.
Alex’s background includes work on renewable energy, policy analysis, and basic science, with a focus on energy and environmental topics. As a geologist at Sandia National Laboratories, he conducted research on radioactive waste storage, geologic CO2 sequestration, and reservoir fracturing. He was Program Manager for the Global Research Department at Hult International Business School, where he improved collaboration among researchers around the world. Most recently, he was a project manager at Biodiversity Research Institute, where he coordinated permitting for distributed and utility-scale solar and wind energy projects throughout New England and the U.S. East Coast.
Alex lives in North Yarmouth, Maine. He serves on his Town Planning Board and volunteers with the Maine Tool Library (a lending library for tools and equipment). He enjoys live sports and supports New England teams. When not working, he might be gardening, skiing, or collecting fossils. He was an inaugural member of the Climatebase Fellowship. He has a B.A. in English and geology from Amherst College, an M.S. in geology from the University of Texas at Austin, and an MBA from Hult International Business School.
