On October 10, 2013, Energy Innovation CEO Hal Harvey gave a presentation on the future of clean energy in the U.S. electricity sector at Argonne National Laboratory outside of Chicago. Hal’s presentation, titled “Clean Power: How Far Can We Go?”, examines renewable energy’s growth, with declining costs and increasing installments around the world. He follows with an explanation of the new energy paradigm: Electricity systems are starting to incorporate more distributed resources, and markets have begun to adapt by encouraging integration of these energy sources through new pricing structures. Hal concludes with a list of policies and actions that will help the U.S. continue to move toward a low-carbon electricity system. The policies for the evolving power sector, such as Renewable Portfolio Standards, net metering, and redesigned utility business models, are also discussed in America’s Power Plan, a policy guide for energy decision-makers, which was co-produced by Energy Innovation.
